Taste it and you will get a desire for it.
—Irish Proverb
Some times you don't desire it . This book was a OK for me . Lets say the story didn't invoke any strong emotional response from my brain or my heart . Both main characters {Kylie & Michael} are good but not alluring or captivating . The story sometimes disconnected and just starts at some other situations,I felt what happened all of a sudden . At no point in this book I was completely engrossing. So 2 stars
Michael Kilbride is a 32 years old ex convict released from jail after 14 years for terrorist acts, which he didn't not commit but accepted the guilt as his penance or atonement due to his unconscious involvement resulted in the death of innocent children and people.
Kylie O'Shea is a 24 years primary teacher at Gaelscoil Pearse—one of the local All-Irish schools ,whose father Black Johnny O'Shea who has cheated the towns people due to his housing scheme and a drunkard.

Michael Kilbride moves in with his sister Vi in a small irish town of Ballymuir ,after being released from the prison.Michael gets into argument with his sister Vi over the money his grandmother has left for him and in anger walks away from this home , he just kept on walking in anger that's when Michael notices a Kylie in a field clearing rocks . Michael meets Kylie by sheer co incident or destiny we can say . Kylie asks Michael for help and then offers him food for the aid, this how their friendship begins.
Michael & Kylie both have suffered in their past .Michael as 18 years old who fell in love with Dervla Rourke who just seduced him to transport explosives in his car . Dervla Rourke and Brian Rourke{her so called brother who is actually her lover}belonged to a terrorist cell who blew up a building where many innocent children were killed . Kylie had been raped by her fathers associate when she was 18 . Both of then are virtually or basically virgins .
Michael's past is reveled in the small town, where everyone in the town dislikes him and disowns him . Michael is shown as a strong character when he faces the town people,as he tries to start his life as a carpenter. Michael's past catches up with him and there are anonymous menacing phone calls to his sisters house ,he tracks down Brian Rourke and after giving him a bashing and tells Brian to him alone to live peacefully . Brian Rourke is murdered and Michael is charged with his murder, which he escapes after the authorities find the real culprit . Kylie also gives testimony that she was with him all night when the crime happened.
Kylie keeps her affair with Michael as secret from towns people cause she afraid of losing her job which is her sole means of income , but after Michaels arrest she announces that she loves Michael in the middle of the towns pub.
The way both main characters express love for each other Kylie in the heat of anger and Michael as he proposes marriage ,after bashing Brian Rourke he realizes that he want a life with Kylie. Its pretty easy going ,there are no grand gestures in this book as far as concerned with declarations of love goes .
There are too many small stories that take place in the main story. The reader almost fells disconnected with the whole plot . Gerry Flynn as Kylie's protector her first crush a witness to her rape who harasses Michael and follows him around the town.Pat and Danny Michael's brothers who come to visit him. Michael's mother and her present resentment , bitterness. Michael family's cold shoulder as he was a teenager . Kylie's father , Brian Rourke and many more that we see in this book.

Problem is that it feels like patch work not a whole single story at all there are too many big holes in the plot that the author never seems to even acknowledge.I did not connect to both the main characters or to the secondary characters at all , may be Dorien Kelly could have done better in my opinion.

The three things Aristotle couldn’t understand:
the work of the bees, the coming and going
of the tide, and the mind of a woman.
—Irish Triad
I would like to say the same thing about this story because its complicated and incomprehensible
