Why did I read two volumes of this in high school? I can see why I never grabbed this one. *rolls eyes* ~
Have you ever decided to revisit something from a decade ago because you never finished it and you’re curious as to how that fun series turned out? Did you also scratch your head and wonder what the hell you were thinking when you picked this series up the first time? I’m so confused right now. High School me has some serious explaining to do when it comes to Tokyo Mew Mew.

I remember Tokyo Mew Mew vaguely but in a sort of “that was interesting” sort of way, so a revisit seemed nice. I remember the story line well enough to grab the third one and get started, and I was almost immediately mad at myself. There are so many cliches in this. There is a weird love triangle where the girl gets mega flustered over everything either guy does, and the tension of one being an jerk and the other not know everything about her. We get the standard group of girls from manga like this (the young one, the cute one, the nerdy one, the sexy one, and the tomboy). The story is basically sailor moon, but without the depth or the sense…and it’s just kind of boring.

The art is cute enough though, and I do really like the idea of them turning into endangered species…but that kind of gets ruined by the almost Captain Planet like pushiness of it. I mean I’d lead the charge on saving animals and rain forests, I’d even punch a few oil company CEOs…but I roll my eyes when a villains plan is to win the earth by polluting it to death. If I think it’s stupid in Thor (Roxxon Corp) then no one has hope…except maybe Hexxus from Ferngully, but that doesn’t count because he kind of IS pollution (and his singing is perfection).

I don’t know…I think high school me was confused, because I’m not really seeing the appeal anymore. I don’t know if I’ll pick up volume 4, it might be wise to just have a clean break from this one and call it done.
